September Highlights

The kindergarten students are busy this month!  Meeting new friends and teachers, learning classroom routines, and trying many new things keep the students excited to come to school each day.  In the months of August and September, the students hear a variety of beginning of school books.  A few of their favorites are The Kissing Hand, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, If You Take a Mouse to School, and Froggy Goes to School.  They eagerly participate in activities after hearing each story.

In religion this month, the students learn about the beautiful world God created.  The day and night sky, land and water, animals, families, and friends are all important to them and they learn that God created them out of love.  In math, the students learn a variety of readiness skills, such as positions (in, out, above, behind, over), and other concepts that prepare them for future lessons.  Reading lessons introduce rhyming, print awareness, letter identification, and letter sounds.  The students are active in an All About Me theme in social studies and learn about living and nonliving things in science.

During centers, the students are engaged in several art projects, begin to write, learn about colors and shapes, and use computers and books on tape in the classroom.

The students are also very excited about going to computers, gym, library, and music!  There are so many new things to do and learn in kindergarten!
