February brings several new themes for the kindergartners to learn about! Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, and Presidents’ Day all are topics the students will learn about in various subject areas. Exciting stories, poems, and centers will allow the students to learn the meaning behind each important day and practice skills related to these themes.
In religion, the students learn about several Bible stories related to Jesus gathering friends. They will learn about being friends of Jesus and gathering together to go to Mass with other friends of Jesus.
In math, the students will learn about money. Each coin will be studied and the students will learn the name of the coin as well as its value.
This will come just in time for Presidents’ Day, when the students will learn about the presidents on each coin.
In social studies, the students will focus on Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Also in social studies, the students will learn about the Earth and the various landforms it has. They will also be introduced to the United States and World maps. This will go well with their unit in science, where they will learn about the Earth and Sky. Daytime and nighttime skies will be studied as well as weather and seasons.
The students are also excited to celebrate the 100th Day of School this month! They have been eagerly counting each day of school so far and will celebrate the day by sharing an at home activity they did to count 100 items.
