September Highlights

Fourth Grade is off to an amazing start! This month is filled with so many exciting activities and lessons! Read and find out what’s going on in room 204!

Religion:  Students will learn the goodness of God through discussing the Holy Trinity and more.  These preparations will lead to Reconciliation.

Reading: Students are discussing story elements.  To do so, the students will create a class movie that describes the setting, plot, characters, and more.  In class, stories are focusing on the theme of family.

Science: To begin science class, each student is becoming a knowledgeable scientist by exploring scientific inquiry and methodology.  Students will create paper planes and investigate why or why not they worked properly.  Furthermore, students will complete different experiments to study the scientific method.  A unit on animal and plant structure and function will follow.

Social Studies: The United States of America is the focus all year.  To begin, students are learning a song all about the states and capitals to the tune of “Turkey in the Straw.” Also, students will study the levels of government that must govern the five U.S.A. regions on a local and national level.

Math: The year begins with a review of place value, addition, and subtraction.  Quickly, students will be moving into multiplication and division.

English: For fourth grade, students work on both writing and grammar on a weekly basis.  To begin, students are practicing the part of a sentence and how to develop thorough complete sentences.  In Writers’ Workshop, students will complete a writing assignment about themselves.  In correlation, students will create a mind-map to brainstorm and organize ideas in a colorful, creative fashion.

Spelling: The first units focus on r-controlled words, /k/ and /f/ sounds, -ed and –ing endings, as well as –er and –est.
