I am Laura Brewer, the First Grade Teacher here at St. Maria Goretti School.  I’ve been teaching at S.M.G. since 1976.  Before accepting the First Grade position here, I worked in the Elmhurst and River Grove public schools in the primary grades.  I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. I continue to attend workshops to keep up dated with new teaching strategies.  I hope to instill in my students a love of learning by making our classroom an enjoyable place to discover that life has to offer us.  We will share our talents and feelings, where we try to be the best that we can be.  We will work together and develop our “study skills” to help as we grow and move on.  I believe in creating an environment where each student will feel safe and secure.

When I’m not in school I enjoy cheering on the Chicago Bears, reading, working jigsaw puzzles, and scrap booking.  The best is spending time with my family, whether it is our family game night, or watching my nephew or nieces in their sport events, or just spending time with family and friends, is always my favorite past time!
