Fourth Grade December Highlights

Happy Holidays to the SMG Family! December is here and fourth grade is not only preparing for Christmas, but also the New Year!  The following is what’s to come for December and January.

·                    English:  Verbs are the focus for the rest of December.  Students have played Action Verb Charades, written “Very, Marry Helping Verb” poems, and made linking verb chains.  In January, students will begin working with adjectives. Fourth grade is also participating in Writer’s Workshop.  Students are completing their compare and contrast piece and will then write descriptive pieces.

·                    Social Studies:  The Northeast Region is being studied.  In January, students will learn the history of the region.  For Christmas, each student was assigned a state.  They need to research and describe how their Santa would be for the state.  What would he wear? What transportation would he use? Who might he meet?

·                     Reading:  Unit two is coming to an end.  Students will soon being reading the novel Chocolate Touch.  Many fun activities accompany the reading of this book, from making magical coins to acting out favorite scenes.
