January Kindergarten Highlights

The kindergarten class is busy in January!  They start off the New Year learning about a variety of winter topics.  Their themes this month include the New Year, winter animals, snow, the ocean, and Catholic Schools Week.

Also this month, the students are learning about numbers up to 100.  They are eagerly anticipating the 100th day of school, which is coming up quickly!  They will also begin a measurement unit in math.  In science this month, the class is learning about different types of movement people, animals, and objects make.  They will also learn about light and shadows.  Science lessons will also include concepts from their winter themes, such as snow and winter animals.  In social studies, the students will learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. and how people today can be peaceful like he was.

The children are also working on beginning reading skills. They are continuing to work on identifying all uppercase and lowercase letters as well as the sound for each letter.  They have learned color words and number words and their word wall list is growing each week!

The students are also preparing for Catholic Schools Week by learning about the ocean!  Kindergarten will focus on the ocean shoreline.  Stories, poems, songs, art projects, science activities, and reading activities will make the month so exciting!
