June 2, 2009 Dear Parents, This is to introduce our school-wide summer reading program. Unlike previous years, this is a mandatory program. All students are expected to participate by filling in monthly calendars with the amount of minutes they read. Parents, you then initial your child’s time in the appropriate space provided (Saturday of each week). This packet needs to be turned in to their homeroom teacher on the first day of school. It will be counted as their first reading grade of the 2009-2010 school year. Don’t forget the monthly questions found on the top or bottom of each calendar. Your child may read any books you feel are appropriate. Suggested age-appropriate reading lists will be sent home in the report card envelope the last day of school. If older students read to a younger sibling or help read at the library, these minutes will also count. The use of the library is strongly encouraged. Minutes per day – Monday through Friday Pre-K & Kdg. - 15 Grades 5 & 6 - 30 Grades 1 & 2 - 20 Grade 7 - 35 Grades 3 & 4 - 25 Have a great summer filled with enriching reading experiences!
